For 24 years, Rawcus has been a driving force for inclusivity in the arts. We are renowned for award-winning productions that challenge perspectives and celebrate diverse stories. But Rawcus goes beyond the stage. We are also unique in our nurturing and support of a creative and intersectional Ensemble through regular professional development, workshops and rehearsals out of the public eye.

Our commitment to inclusive practise is unwavering and we continually seek to improve disability and cultural accessibility for everyone throughout the industry. Our learnings are shared with other organisations, benefiting the entire arts sector.

Last year, your support helped us achieve incredible things:

  • Free and accessible public projects including two outdoor seasons of When The Human Engine Waits with Midsumma projected upon the State Library and the iconic Luna Park in St Kilda;
  • Development for young artists and audiences through collaborations with acclaimed children’s arts company Polyglot Theatre and Western Edge, a not-for-profit organisation creating safer spaces for young artists from Melbourne’s west;
  • An international collaboration with UK-based writer Neal Pike through Melbourne City of Literature and the Wheeler Centre;
  • New industry workshops exploring audio description (Dare to Describe), inclusive practices (Remix with Western Edge) and cultural safety in the workplace (with Koorie Heritage Trust).

We’re aiming to expand our efforts in 2024 with this ground-breaking program, open-access projects, and a major new work.
