Tattoo Show
**** “a creative dance between past and future” -Artshub
**** “Rawcus performers revel in physical and cognitive difference. Their approach is radically open…” – The Age
NOMINATED FOR BEST IN EXPERIMENTAL MELBOURNE FRINGE AWARDS
A live art, truth and dare show hosted by the Rawcus Ensemble and a professional tattoo artist as part of Melbourne Fringe.
Each night we ask for a volunteer from the audience to be interviewed then inked on stage. Moments of performance sit within a guided conversation between the Rawcus Ensemble, our volunteer, and a tattoo artist. From this conversation we design a bespoke tattoo, a carefully crafted gift, a memorial of our evening together. Our volunteer has no input into what the design is, but can choose where it’s placed. Tattoo Show is simultaneously heartwarming and unorthodox, high art and low art. It examines themes of trust, taboos and memory in an accessible night out with permanent repercussions.
In Tattoo Show consent is key! Our volunteer is free to opt out at any point. It’s all part of the show.
