Kate is stepping down

Since our first production in 2000 founding Artistic Director Kate Sulan has worked alongside the Rawcus Ensemble. Throughout that time Kate has led with an ethos of connection and care by making and presenting audacious theatre and cultural experiences with and for our diverse community. It’s a bittersweet moment for all at Rawcus to announce that Kate has decided to step down from her role at the end of July after 22 years extraordinary years, Kate has had an amazing journey but feels it’s time to pass on this exceptional baton to new custodians to shape the next generation Rawcus. Kate well deserves to spend more time with her family and explore the next phase of in her own creative work.

In 2000 Kate gathered a small group of performers to create a work for the Australian Cerebral Palsy Association national conference. Creative sparks flew and Kate and this small group decided to make another show and another and so on until in 2005 Rawcus incorporated as a not for profit arts organisation. Since then has gone on to become an award-winning, critically acclaimed theatre company with such works as Hunger, Small Odysseys and Song for a Weary Throat.

As an artist and leader Kate’s contribution to the company is nothing short of outstanding. Kate’s vision, incredible eye, craft, dedication, wisdom, and kindness will be missed.  She has laid incredibly strong foundations for our continued success and we step into the next chapter of our evolution ready to embrace new possibilities with the trademark boldness the Rawcus Ensemble is renowned for.

This moment in time is one of deep gratitude for Kate’s amazing legacy and also one that opens up an extraordinary opportunity for someone to join the company. Thank-you Kate for your amazing legacy.
